All squash is suitable for this recipe. I choose gem squash simply because it is keto friendly and very low in carbs. You can use different squash that is low carb and keto-friendly when following a low carb diet.

How many carbs are in squash?

Gem squash one cup of 100g has 6g of carbohydrates
spaghetti squash 100g has 7g of carbohydrates
Butternut squash 100g has 12g of carbohydrates

Notes and tips
You can also remove the seeds from the squash after boiling them, I find this to be easier cause they are soft at that stage
Don’t add a lot of water all at once, you don’t want your squash full of water. In an unfortunate event where this happens, you can hold the squash with the open side facing down then press out the water using a spoon.

Diet tip, if you have just started on your keto diet for weight loss purposes you would want to go easy on the cheese as diary products can stall your progress.
