Brioche: This rich and buttery bread is a popular choice for French toast. It has a slightly sweet flavor and a soft texture that soaks up the egg mixture well.

Challah: This Jewish egg bread is similar to brioche and is often used for making French toast. It has a slightly chewy texture and a slightly sweet flavor that pairs well with the egg mixture.

  • Bread: Any type of bread that works for you, Check the above list for the best bread to make french toast
  • Eggs: These have to be at room temperature
  • Sugar: I try to cut down on sugar as much as I possibly can, so use a sugar alternative like stevia because it contains little to no carbs and calories.
  • Oreos: Crush a few of these cookies, some will go into the custard while others with be used for garnishing and the condensed milk syrup
  • Milk: I used unsweetened almond milk for this recipe but you are welcome to use regular milk.
  • Vanilla extract: this essence will give our french toast a great flavor and pleasant smell
  • Butter: Butter or olive oil will help the bread not stick to the skillet. You have an option of making this in an air fryer, so you may use olive oil mist spray on the air fryer basket.
  • Condensed milk: The less sugar the better, I used unsweetened condensed milk, if you prefer, you can use sweetened condensed milk.

What is the trick of making good french toast?

There are a few key tricks to making a good French toast:

Use the right bread: Choose bread that will hold up well to being dipped in the egg mixture without falling apart. Slightly stale bread works best as it is drier and will absorb the egg mixture better.

Soak the bread properly: Make sure to fully soak the bread in the egg mixture so that it cooks evenly and is fully infused with the flavors. Be careful not to over-soak the bread, as it can become mushy and fall apart.

Use the right ratio of egg mixture: The egg mixture should be made with a good ratio of eggs, milk, and any additional flavorings you’re using. A good rule of thumb is to use one egg for every 1/8 cup of milk.

Cook on medium heat: To avoid burning the outside of the French toast before the inside is cooked, it’s best to cook on medium heat. This will ensure that the French toast cooks evenly and gets that golden brown color without burning.

Variations of French toast ideas

Cinnamon toast: Use cinnamon bread instead of plain bread and add a sprinkle of cinnamon to the egg mixture for a delicious cinnamon toast French toast.

Nutella and banana: Spread Nutella on the bread before dipping it in the egg mixture. Then top with banana slices before serving. This will create a sweet and gooey French toast.

Almond and honey: Add finely crushed almonds and a drizzle of honey to the egg mixture for a nutty and sweet French toast.

Peanut butter and Jam: Spread peanut butter and jam on the bread before dipping it in the egg mixture. This will create a nostalgic and delicious French toast.

Remember to adjust the sweetness of the egg mixture based on the sweetness of the ingredient you are using, and have fun experimenting with different flavors and ingredients to make a French toast recipe that is unique and personalized to your taste!
