What is the best bread for horchata french toast?
Brioche bread comes highly recommended but any regular bread can make the perfect french toast ever following my magical tips and tricks. The trick is for the slices to be thick, not thin, and not to soak the bread in the custard for a long time.
Ingredients needed
Brioche bread – This bread tastes sweeter on its own and it’s made with an enriched dough making it the perfect first choice however any type of bread with thicker slices can give us nice golden brown french toast.
Horchata– In his recipe, I used horchata powder but if you don’t have that you can make your own. I will share a short quick way to make your own.
Eggs – We use this for our custard to coat the bread with and it will help the coating to hold onto the bread.
Milk Because I’m using horchata powder, I will be using milk to add to my liquid ingredients. If you opt for the horchata beverage then you may not need to use milk, you don’t want soggy french toast with all that watery custard.
Brown sugar. I prefer using brown sugar because I believe it contributes to the browning of the french toast. Any type of sugar will work, my reason could be just my mind believing what it wants to believe. You will also need a bit of icing sugar at the end for making it look delicious.
All-purpose flour – This is the secret ingredient to making fluffy french toast.
Vanilla extract This makes your toast taste and smell heavenly and as an additional option you can spice it up with cinnamon as well. These two complements one another very well
Maple syrup for the finishing you will top it with a generous amount of marble syrup or honey if you have, either one of the two works
Fresh fruits Make a restaurant perfect horchata french toast by topping your toast with fresh fruits
Butter or non-stick spray
